California Leadership

States like California are America’s future. California is the world’s most diverse democracy and America’s leader in defending freedom, democracy, and the right to vote.

Red state politicians sell regression as progress and oppression as freedom. These demagogues promote grievance and victimhood, in an attempt to erase so much of the progress our country has made.

But California offers an alternative path. The country’s largest state is now the world’s fourth-largest economy, one deeply committed to ensuring no one is left behind. California is leading the world in the transition to a low-carbon, green growth future. Hundreds of thousands of students are attending college debt-free. And California is the first state to provide universal health care access to every resident — regardless of their immigration status.

California offers the freedom for teachers to teach, free of litmus tests about their political party or the person they love.

The Golden State is protecting the right to vote without intimidation — with results decided by the people, not the politicians.

And every Californian has the freedom to decide for themselves whether or not to build a family. We protect the right of doctors to provide reproductive health care and abortion care — so much so that we have enshrined it in our state constitution.

The data is clear — people who live in California and other blue states are far more likely to be healthier and live more prosperous lives.

Compare California to states like Mississippi, Florida, and Texas— from life expectancy, to gun deaths, to educational attainment and quality of life; it’s better to live in a state that gives a damn about your well-being and protects your freedom to live your life.

Consider This

  • LIFE EXPECTANCY: Residents of blue states live longer by an average of 7 years.
  • CRIME: 8 of the 10 states with the highest murder rates voted for Republican nominees in every election this century.
  • TAXES: Tax rates for middle class families in California are lower than they are for the same family in Texas.
  • ECONOMY: California is poised to become the fourth largest economy in the world. Blue states have thriving economies, making up 61% of the US GDP.
